“Care for Creation, It's Very Ignatian!”

Br. Mark Mackey, SJ, joined Jesuit Connections on April 27, 2022 for an online discussion on ecospirituality! Together we explored how Ignatian Spirituality and the Jesuit tradition can be enhanced through an ecological lens and how Ignatian Spirituality can add to the ecological movement. Br. Mark also shared how Care for Creation can be lived out in an Ignatian community context and explained how his own ecological conversion deepened his faith and informed his vocation.

Br. Mark Mackey, SJ, is a Jesuit of the Midwest Province, and he is currently at Loyola University Chicago where he teaches environmental science for non-majors and Ecospirituality for majors at Loyola’s School of Environmental Sustainability. He is originally from Cincinnati, OH where he first met the Jesuits attending St. Xavier High School. Mark is happiest outside, and enjoys any opportunity for backpacking, hiking, fishing, and kayaking. One of his current greatest joys is seeing his young niece and nephews grow up and be excited about the outdoors as well. It’s not always sunshine and Chacos, however, as Mark also enjoys listening to audiobooks and podcasts, especially while enduring long Chicago winters.
