La Frontera: An Ignatian Look at the US-Mexico Border

Jesuit Connections welcomed Fr. Brian Strassburger, SJ, on September 20, 2022, for “La Frontera: An Ignatian Look at the US-Mexico Border.”

About this Event:

Fr. Brian Strassburger, SJ, will join us and share the story of beginning a new mission on the US-Mexico border, highlighting Bishop Daniel Flores' instructions to "read the reality, and respond to it." Fr. Brian will describe the evolving reality on the border and give a little background on the major U.S. policies that are governing migrants and asylum seekers. He will explain the humanitarian and pastoral response that guides the Jesuit mission, and how faith is a source of strength and hope for many migrants. We will conclude by offering some concrete ways to get involved in making a difference in the lives of migrants. There will be time for Q&A as well.

Fr. Brian Strassburger, SJ, is a Jesuit of the US Central and Southern Province, and he works in the diocese of Brownsville, TX on the US-Mexico border. Brian grew up in Denver, CO, and went to Regis Jesuit High School followed by college at Saint Louis University. As a Jesuit, he studied International Development at Fordham University, which inspired two and half years working at a Jesuit nonprofit in Managua, Nicaragua. After theology studies at Boston College, Brian was ordained in 2021 and sent to a new mission of his province on the border. He helps at a local parish in Brownsville, accompanies migrants on both sides of the border, and co-hosts The Jesuit Border Podcast. Brian’s extracurricular activities include cheering on Denver sports teams, growing a beard, and enjoying fellowship over beers.
